Voting underway in landmark referendums

Polling is underway across Ireland for the referendums on same sex marriage and lowering the age at which citizens are eligible to be President from 35 to 21.

The polls opened at 7am and will remain staffed until 10pm tonight, allowing ample time for the 3.2 million people in Ireland entitled to vote to have their say.

After the voting closes, the ballots will be removed to a secure location ahead of counting, which begins at 9am tomorrow morning. An early indication of the result is expected to be available by 11am, with the final outcome to be announced at around 5pm on Saturday evening at Dublin Castle.

If you do not have your polling card, you can still vote provided you have some form of identification, such as a passport, birth certificate or drivers licence.
