Europe to observe minute’s silence today

A minute’s silence will be held across Europe today in memory of the victims who died in the recent Paris attacks.

Leaders of the European Union have called on each of its nations to take part in the silence which will be observed at 11.00am GMT (12.00pm in Paris).

As well as remembering those who tragically lost their lives, it will serve as a sign of solidarity with France.

A statement from the EU leaders said: “The European Union is deeply shocked and in mourning after the terrorist attacks in Paris. It is an attack against us all.

“We will face this threat together with all necessary means and ruthless determination.

“Good is stronger than evil. Everything that can be done at European level to make France safe will be done. We will do what is necessary to defeat extremism, terrorism and hatred.”
