7 Times I Swear I Almost Exercised This Week

There was a time, long, long ago, when I had the willpower to make my body do things my brain didn’t want to do.

Things like running and TRX; sit-ups and lifting heavy things. Eating protein.

Lately I’m finding that the mere thought of these activities makes me tired and filled with rage. Nevertheless, we all know that exercise plays an important part in protecting the mind and body so you have to try your hardest to fit it into your day.

Here are seven times I almost managed it this week…

1. When I googled the nearest gym to check out their classes and spent so long reading the schedule (yoga on Tuesdays, Pilates on Thursdays, spinning on Friday mornings…) that I genuinely began to feel fitter.

2. When the local off-licence was out of Rioja and I had to run like the wind around the corner to the other one before they closed. Luckily I was already wearing a sports bra for the kettle bells class I cancelled earlier.

3. When I bought a sweet pair of new trainers that are still in the box because the weather has been wet and I don’t want to get them dirty.

4. When I walked the dog to the park and we decided to go to Starbucks for frappuccinos instead.

5. When the dog’s bouncy ball rolled under the couch and I had to literally get down on my hands and knees to retrieve it. And get back up again.

6. I dreamt I ran the New York Marathon for an obscure animal charity. When I finished the race (first, natch) I gave a giant cheque to Oprah, the spokesperson, and everybody clapped. Hours after I woke up I still I felt really fit and charitable, like the Mother Teresa of running.

7. When a woman with a fully loaded shopping trolley was heading for the nearest cash register in Marks & Spencers’ food hall and I used every living molecule of energy in my body to propel myself towards it first because I only had three items. #Winning
