If you or someone you know suffers from migraines, you will know that they can leave you bed-ridden and/or make you physically ill.
And while the natural reaction of the sufferer is to avoid any kind of light, recent research indicates that green light could help to alleviate migraine pain.
A study, led by Dr. Carolyn A. Bernstein and published in ‘BRAIN: A Journal of Neurology’, found that green light could potentially be used to reduce symptoms.
The team reportedly analysed participants’ perception of pain and other brain activity whilst they were exposed to amber, blue, green, red and white light.

It was found that the green light did not aggravate symptoms. In fact, it appeared to minimise them for most.
This is not the first study aimed at determining whether different shades of light impact migraine sufferers more or less, nor do the team know the reason behind their conclusion.
Despite this, the experiment could be a step towards reducing pain for migraine sufferers as it could be used by designers to create products that emit, or limit the sufferer’s light exposure to, green light.
There are many different types of migraines and treatments for same. For more information, visit The Migraine Association of Ireland website HERE or consult your doctor.
