Meath Dad Plans To Run 26.2 Miles Pushing His Daughter’s Wheelchair Buggy

Navan dad Keith Russell is planning to run the Dublin City Marathon next October, while pushing his daughter Alanna the full 26.2 miles in her specially-adapted jogging buggy.

Alanna (7) has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy meaning that she can’t walk or talk and is PEG fed. The 33-year-old dad of four says it is his first marathon and the pair are hoping to fundraise for The Meadows – a HSE respite care home in Navan that Alanna attends.

“Our goal for the coming year is to raise enough money to replace their twelve-year-old wheelchair accessible bus with a brand new one. This will be something that over seventy children will get use of.

It’s a massive undertaking but we like to aim high, we will need all the help and support we can get.”

‘Team Alanna’ completed a sixteen kilometre run in the Phoenix Park last Sunday in an hour and sixteen minutes, so it looks like the duo are right on track for their end goal later this year.

The daddy-daughter team have set up a fundraising page and plan to keep running towards their marathon finish,

“We will have plenty of running events coming up in the new year and would love people to join us and raise a few pound for a great cause.”
