New details have emerged.
Last week it was reported that a Dublin resident had been arrested in Rome in connection with the disappearance of his wife. Daniel Belling, who lives in Dublin but is not believed to be Irish, was arrested when he tried to board a plane from Rome to Dublin on February 20th.
Daniel and his wife Xing Lei Li were on holidays on a cruise ship with their two sons, earlier in the month, when she disappeared.
During questioning with Italian police, Daniel said that he took the two children on a day trip off the boat and when he returned his wife was not there. He assumed she had gone to China or to their home in Dublin.
New details, obtained from the security system on the cruise ship, now suggests that Xing Lei Li never left the boat. According to The Independent, the key cards that are used by guests on the cruise ship show that she never left the boat.
The guests need to use the cards to enter and exit the boat and Xing never used hers.
Mr Belling remains in Italian custody while the investigation continues.
