“Don’t mess with my cubs.”
True Blood star Anna Paquin has revealed why she and her husband keep their twins out of the spotlight.
The actress is mum to five-year-old twins Poppy and Charlie, who she shares with her former co-star Stephen Moyer.
The 35-year-old had an early taste of the spotlight when she was a child, when she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1994 for her role in The Piano.
She was 11 years old at the time.
She told TODAY Parents:
“Everyone chooses what works for their family. There are aspects of one’s private life that are fun and cute and not too revealing.
“I’ve always been very private. I’m not as neurotic about it as I was when I was younger. I don’t want people to know too much about my real, inner private life.
“That’s part of having been a teenager and feeling constantly, brutally self-conscious and not wanting anyone to stare at me but having a job where that was part of it.”
The mum-of-two said that while she realises some famous parents believe if you allow a little – like a cute holiday photo or candid shot – the paparazzi may back off.
But she’s not convinced.
She added that people won’t find any photos of her kids online or in magazines – as she said that it was a choice she and Moyer “specifically” made for them.
She said:
“I want the right to say that they’re not fair game.
“Don’t mess with my cubs.”
