The red snow-ice warning has been extended to Cork, Waterford, and Wexford

The red snow-ice weather warning has been extended to three more counties.

Cork, Waterford, and Wexford are now also covered by the warning, with further disruptive heavy snowfall expected overnight.

The warning is valid from tonight at 9pm to Thursday 12pm.

Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath have already been told to expect significant snow showers, with accumulations reaching up to 25 centimetres by tomorrow.

The government has urged people in Leinster and Munster to ensure that they are indoors by 4pm tomorrow.

They must remain indoors until 12pm on Friday.

A flood warning has also been issued for Cork from Thursday afternoon until Monday morning. There is a “significant risk” of flooding in the city before and after the tides.

Cork council said that all property owners in the areas affected have been advised to take necessary measures.
