Mum’s important conversation with daughter who threw her Curvy Barbie away

A mum has shared an important conversation she had with her daughter who threw her Curvy Barbie away.

Allison Kimmey said she discovered her daughter, Cambelle, threw the Barbie away because she thought her legs were “too big” and her arms “weren’t right.”

Allison took to Instagram to explain how she told her daughter that it was OK to have fat on your body.

She posted the following conversation:

“Me:”Okay. Can you tell me why you threw away one of your perfectly good toys?”
“Cambelle:”Because I don’t like her. ”
“M:”What do you mean you don’t like her?”
“C:”Her arms aren’t right. Her legs are too big. She doesn’t look like my other barbies. And she doesn’t fit into any of the clothes except this one outfit.””

Allison said she became quite upset upon having the conversation because had always felt like “a plus-sized woman in a thin woman’s world” growing up.

She said that much like herself, Curvy Barbie is “still living in a thin Barbie world.”

The conversation continued.

“M:”How do you think barbie feels now that you put her in the trash? Was that a very nice thing to do?”
“C:”I think she feels sad and crying.”
“M:”Just because her body is different, does that mean that she is wrong?”
“C:”No, mama. Because she has more fat. And it’s okay to have fat.””
