We’ve read a lot about the health benefits of wine in recent weeks – including the fact that it is said to cut the risk of Alzheimer’s disease – but this latest one is something else.
According to The Huffington Post, a study from earlier this year found that drinking a glass of red wine is the equivalent to an hour in the gym.
You read that right.
Researchers at the University of Alberta found that the component in wine called resveratrol improves physical performance, heart function and muscle strength.
Unfortunately for those who are fond of the old vino (us), the benefits fall by the wayside after more than one reasonably-sized glass.
Speaking about the findings, the study leader Jason Dyck said: “I think resveratrol could help patient populations who want to exercise but are physically incapable.
“Resveratrol could mimic exercise for them or improve the benefits of the modest amount of exercise that they can do.”
