Summer grillin’: We can’t get enough of these BBQ sticky hoisin pork chops

When I think of pork chops, I think bland – low-fat, but so-often so-bland. Nothing in my cupboards seems to liven them up enough to tempt, and I never have time to whip up an apple sauce.

That’s where this super-simple, punchy marinade comes in – it’s so easy to throw together and the result? Quite possibly the simplest, quickest route to punchy, finger lickin’-good chops. The irresistibly sweet and sticky marinade will leave you wanting more (and the kids attempting to lick the plates!).

Serves 2-4 people

Ingredients:

4 pork chops

For the marinade:

  • 3 tablespoons Siúcra’s rich dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 inches fresh ginger root, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped

Method:

  • Put all the marinade ingredients into a bowl and stir well. Add the pork chops and stir to coat in the marinade.
  • Cover and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to marinade.
  • Preheat the BBQ to a direct medium heat (175C/350F).
  • Cook the chops turning frequently for approximately 15-20 minutes until cooked through. If there is any sauce left in the bowl you can spoon this over the meat after you turn the chops the first time. Then discard what is left as it had raw meat in it.
  • Serve with a lovely fresh green salad. Delicious!
