WATCH: Here’s how to infuse sugar with extra flavour

Make your Christmas extra sweet with these super easy-to-make flavoured sugars! 

Infusing sugar with gorgeous flavours like vanilla and lavender is a brilliant way to give your festive baking a lift. Whether you bake it right in, add it to your favourite winter tea, or sprinkle it on top of your Christmas cookies, it’s a great way to put your signature stamp on your baking.

Or if you’re looking to make a really pretty homemade gift, pick up a couple of mason jars and fill them with a variety of flavoured sugars. A simple, affordable gift –perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Lavender Sugar Ingredients:

  • 150g Siúcra Granulated or Caster Sugar
  • ½ teaspoon dried lavender

Lavender Sugar Method:

  1. Pour the sugar into a clean jar.
  2. Add the lavender.
  3. Put the lid on the jar and shake well to mix.

Vanilla Sugar Ingredients:

  • 150g Siúcra Granulated or Caster Sugar
  • 1 vanilla pod

Vanilla Sugar Method:

  1. ​Pour the sugar into a clean jar.
  2. Remove the seeds from the vanilla pod by slicing the pod in half lengthways with a sharp knife.
  3. Scrape out the seeds with the back of the knife.
  4. Add in the seeds to the sugar along with the empty vanilla pod.
  5. Put the lid on the jar and shake well to mix.
