Nineties slip dresses are having something of a moment this season. From street style to catwalk, they’re everywhere.
John Galliano, the ’90s king of slip dresses even resurrected the trend in his pre-autumn/winter 2016 collection. Playing on proportions, volume and using a mix of silk, sheer and lace fabrics, Galliano has modernised the classic style in his new designs. If you’re not brave enough to bare all à la Kate Moss and her troop of supermodel pals who brought the trend to life back in the ’90s, we’ve got a step by step guide to show you how to make this slinky sleepwear trend wearable for the everyday (and the everyday woman).
Síomha Connolly of Maven46 recommends four different ways to wear the oh-so-alluring slip dress with items you already have in your wardrobe:
Slip Dress/ Polo Neck
First up try wearing your slip dress over a polo neck, this will add an air of sophistication to the slinky slip dress. Top your outfit off with some shiny gold layering necklaces for some extra glamour. This look will take you from daytime office wear right through to an after work dinner or event.

Slip Dress / Minimalist
For the ultimate ’90s minimalist look, layer a plain black slip dress over your favourite white tee, finish with box-fresh white trainers and a simple leather clutch. When summer comes round try swapping your black slip for a white variation and pair with black trainers for a clean, modern take on the look. Insouciantly cool and right on trend.

Slip Dress/ Grunge
To dress it down, team your silk slip dress with a check shirt wrapped around the waist (waist wrapping is also huge this season!), add your choice of trainers and a parka or denim jacket for additional layering wealth. Stylish and cosy for those cold winter mornings – ’90s teen attitude optional.

Slip Dress/ Trousers

If you’re not usually a dress-kind-of-girl, try wearing your slip dress over a pair of vintage wash denim jeans, tapered trousers or cropped flares. Layer a t-shirt or long sleeve top of your choice underneath for some extra coverage and voilà, you have a look that is equally dressy and casual.
