A mother has been found guilty of 29 counts of child cruelty and neglect.
The woman, who cannot be named in order to protect the identities of the eight children involved, was acquitted on 13 of the charges against her after a jury of nine men and three women considered the evidence during a two-week trial.
Yesterday Galway Circuit Court heard that the woman punished her children by pouring soap down their throats. She was also accused of cutting the arm of one of her children and pushing another one down the stairs.
The court heard that in one year between 2010 and 2011, one child missed 76 school days.
The woman’s counsel requested bail and said his client would stay away from Galway City and would not speak to any of the witnesses at the trial.
