Baby boy born with parts of his half-formed twin brother inside him

The baby is otherwise healthy.

A baby in India has been delivered with parts of his twin brother inside his body.

Half-formed body parts of another baby were discovered inside the newborn by doctors after he was delivered.

A radiologist had picked up on an “unusual mass” inside the baby during a routine scan last month, reports the Independent.

When the little boy was born, doctors discovered that he had malformed body parts of an undeveloped twin brother, including legs, one arm and a brain, behind his stomach.

It was a case of a phenomenon known as ‘foetus in foetu’, whereby a so-called ‘parasitic twin’ grows inside a baby during pregnancy.

Such cases are rare, with just 200 known incidences of the condition recorded.

The Indian baby, born to a mother in the town of Mumbra, was operated on shortly after birth.

Surgeons successfully removed the body parts of the parasitic twin and the little boy is now said to be otherwise healthy.
