Last night was a rough one for many people across the country as Storm Frank brought strong winds and heavy rain, leading to damage and flooding in some parts.
But it seems he’s not done quite yet with weather warnings still in place until lunchtime today.
According to the Met Éireann website, there is a status orange wind warning in place for Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Waterford and Wexford until 1pm today.
Mean wind speeds of up to 80 km/hr and gusts reaching 120 km/hr are expected at times with hilly and coastal areas bearing the brunt.
There is also a status orange rainfall warning in place covering Cork, Galway, Kerry, Waterford and Wicklow. This ends at 12pm this afternoon.
The forecaster also issued two yellow status warnings – one for wind and another for rainfall – covering other parts of the country.
In general, today will bring heavy showers but these will ease somewhat as the day progresses with sunny spells developing. It will be cold with temperatures between 5 and 8 degrees Celsius.
Tonight will be cold with a mixture of clear spells and showers. Lowest temperatures will be under 4 degrees Celsius with a risk of frost and ice in some places.
As for tomorrow, New Year’s Eve, it will be cold and unsettled with heavy showers throughout the day. These will be wintry on higher ground.
These patches of rain will ease tomorrow night however it will be cold with lows between -2 and 2 degrees Celsius.
