Body of missing 1-year-old found in septic tank

Absolutely heartbreaking.

Yesterday the search was called off for a missing one year old boy after it was confirmed that he had been found dead.

The body of a missing toddler was found Monday afternoon in a septic tank, in what police believe to be a tragic accident.

According to Putnam County authorities, the young boy went missing from his home over the weekend.

The one year old was last seen playing in the back yard of his rural home.

Sheriff Homer DeLoach III said Jose Lara’s body was found in a septic tank on the family’s property in what appears to be an accidental fall.

The septic tank in which Jose was found is located about 40 yards from the home and was covered with rotting plywood.

Officials believe the young child wandered off and fell through the rotting wood accidentally.

Jose’s mother briefly left him unattended to bring her other child in doors to clean them up and was horrified to find he was no longer in the garden when she came back outside.

Speaking on the tragic ending, DeLoach was quoted as saying;

“This was certainly the worst possible case scenario as far as outcome.

These things happen in just a blink of an eye.

And it’s terribly unfortunate what’s happened here, but it serves as a reminder to all of us who have children that are parents that there’s never an opportunity to leave them unsupervised.”

Our thoughts are with the family of little Jose at this extremely difficult time.
