Did James Cordon Just Suggest That Britney Spears Is A Bad Mother?

Poor Britney Spears – a beloved songstress who we were obsessed with in the 90s and Noughties who just never seemed to be happy.

The sweet little Mickey Mouse Club graduate rebelled from celebrity and fame with distressing scenes of public meltdowns and THAT head-shaving moment of 2007.

As a then mother to two boys – born just a year apart in 2005 and 2006 – the pressures of being a new mother, one of the biggest celebrities in the world and dealing with divorcing Kevin Federline was understandably too much for her.

In her public appearances after a stint in rehab and much controversy over the taking over of all control of her personal and professional affairs by her father, it seemed to us that we didn’t have the ‘old Britney’ any more.

She was muted, lacklustre and just always seemed a bit dead behind the eyes.

I have been vaguely aware of her TV and musical appearances but giving her any attention always feels wrong – she is like a managed version of her former self who still isn’t quite mentally well.

The latest carpool karaoke from James Cordon reaffirms this for me. As much as I love this concept and have been a fan of La Cordon, the whole video is VERY uncomfortable to watch.

Aside from seeming forced to sing along to her old songs, the interview in between songs was quite bizarre.

The worst of it, in my opinion, was asking her if her kids (now 9 and 10) have been to see her show in Vegas.

When Britney replies yes, Cordon asks;

“What’s it like for them if you’re, like, wearing a racy outfit?”

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot?!

Britney handled it well, I thought, explaining that the boys understand that their mum is performing.

But he bloody well continues (as well as ‘gyrating’ in a very suggestive way to indicate the kind of dancing that Britney does on stage) and says;

“I saw my mum in her underwear once, I can’t shake the image from my brain”

Well, that’s great. That’s really helpful James, thanks a million.

You’ve just told a single working mum who sings, dances, sweats and performs to an epic standard in Vegas (a gruelling schedule too, by the way) that she is in some way messing up her kids for life.

I’m not going to link the Carpool Karaoke video here but if you do happen to catch it, just watch Britney’s reaction as she tries to remain polite but shakes her head and looks away out of the passenger side window.

What a ridiculous interview question to ask anyone in 2016 – I am 100% offended on her behalf.

Can we just all take a moment to UNSUBSCRIBE to Carpool Karaoke, please and thank you.
