“When I got there, my heart sunk”
Losing a child is every parent’s biggest fear. The sheer heartache and pain are hard to imagine, but being able to visit their grave is the one source of comfort many parents can rely on.
One mum was left horrified when she discovered a stranger had stolen from her son’s grave.
Donna Varley revealed that her son’s resting place had been vandalised by a strange man prior to her visit.
She told LeedsLive about the harrowing discovery, “It’s really upsetting and this is becoming a continuous thing now. I’ve got to the point where I feel like giving up and I shouldn’t have to feel like that when it comes to decorating my own son’s grave.”
It is understood that the thief stole a projector and numerous solar lights. Photos of her son Kaison were also tossed around the area near his grave.
“I’d gone to visit Kaison, as I always go every night to say goodnight to him – I go every day, and every night, I don’t miss a day, but when I got there, my heart sunk.
“It was horrible, especially after last time, I was so shocked. I couldn’t understand why someone would steal from a grave.
“My son loved bright lights, so when he passed away I wanted his grave to be bright and beautiful just the way he would’ve loved it,” she added.
A man was spotted vandalising the grave on CCTV. Numerous other graves had been ransacked in recent months, according to reports.
Donna added: “I think it’s the same man. I’ve had a few people tell me they’ve seen him around the cemetery before acting strange and a bit odd.”
Donna’s son Kaison died of a rare chronic disorder last Easter. He was only 8 and a half months old.
The last thing his mum needs is to deal with someone disrespecting the one place she can still be with her son. Let’s hope the police find the person responsible.
