Heartbreaking Ultrasound Shows Dying Baby Holding Twin Sister’s Hand

A Kansas couple have shared a heartbreaking ultrasound image of their unborn son holding the hand of his twin sister in utero.

It hasn’t been an easy pregnancy for Brittani and Ian McIntire, who are expecting Mason and Madilyn. The couple told a US news station that each doctor appointment revealed worsening news regarding Mason’s health and development. With an abnormal brain and a hole in his heart, Mason is not growing as he should be.

“He’s only weighing nine ounces and his sister is over two pounds,” Brittani told Fox8. “His only chance of survival would be heart surgery but they wouldn’t do heart surgery because of his brain.”

As the devastated couple watched their son’s health worsen, a beautiful moment captured on a routine sonogram offered a small glimmer of hope. The image clearly shows Mason’s tiny hand wrapped around his sister’s finger.

“We didn’t really see much, she said there’s his hand and there’s her hand and it looks like they’re holding hands,” Brittani said.

Whatever the future holds, the McIntire’s are happy to know their children are bonding while they can: “We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever… and it’s special to have,” said Ian.

“It’s just nice with everything going on… I know I’m holding him, I’m carrying him but I just want to be there for him,” Brittani added. “She’s the only one who can actually be there and is holding onto him… so it’s comforting to know that if he does pass, he won’t be alone.”
