IKEA has recalled these two child safety gates. Here’s why…

Furniture giant IKEA has recalled two child safety gates after three children were reportedly injured.

There have been 18 incidents involving the Patrull Klämma and Patrull Smidig safety gate extensions worldwide, including three incidents in which children have been injured as a result of falling down stairs.

The product is said to be safe for use between doorways downstairs but is not suitable for use at the top of the stairs. According to the company, this recall only affects products with a date stamp of “1510” or earlier, since all newer models will include updated user instructions and updated adhesive warning labels for the gate.

“However, for those customers who have a newer safety gate with a later date stamp but who didn’t notice that it’s not suitable for use at the top of stairs, can also get a refund or exchange for PATRULL or PATRULL FAST safety gate which are suitable for the top of the stairs.” said a statement.
