Don’t get caught out.
Irish tourists who plan to rent a car while on holiday are warned not to get caught out by extra charges. A number of cases of extra fees being charged have been reported to the European Consumer Centre.
A lot of people have been accused of damaging the cars even though they haven’t left any marks.
According to Breaking News, it transpired recently that staff in the hiring companies make commission on extra fees charged against customers for damage to vehicles.
The spokesperson for the ECC, Martina Nee has given this advice:
“Always take photographs when you pick it up, also when you drop off the car just to have proof.
Try to return it within working hours. If it’s not in working hours park it in a designated spot, again take pictures as confirmation of that.
When you get home go through your statements to make sure there’s no unauthorised payment.”
