Nurse, Ellanora Baidoo married Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku in a civil ceremony in 2009. However after he refused to go through with the traditional Ghanaian wedding ceremony that he had promised her the marriage was never consummated and they never lived together as husband and wife.
Shortly after Ellanora fell out of touch with her husband, though the elusive Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku made occasional contact through Facebook.
This has lead to a landmark ruling by a New York judge who has agreed that Ellanora can serve her divorce papers to her estranged husband via Facebook.
An unorthodox ruling required some unorthodox methods and the Judge stated that:
“The plaintiff’s attorney shall log into the plaintiff’s Facebook account and message the defendant by first identifying himself, and then including either a web address of the summons or attaching an image of the summons.”
The message will be repeated for three weeks or until Mr Sena Blood-Dzraku responds.
