Stealing Christmas is a very, very serious crime.
And one five-year-old boy was not about to let the Grinch get away with it – even if he has to ring 911.
TyLon Pittman became so concerned for the state of the holiday season after watching videos about the classic Dr Seuss character on Saturday night that he rang the authorities in Byram, Mississippi.
In a recording of the call obtained by The Clarion Ledger, he tells the operator:
“I just want to tell you something. Watch for the Grinch, because the Grinch is going to steal Christmas, okay?”
Officer Lauren Develle heard about the call and decided to swing by TyLon’s house – just to reassure him everything was going to be okay.
The five-year-old’s brother, TeDera Dwayne Graves, shared two videos of what happened when the officer arrived.
The first one shows Officer Develle asking TyLon about what he would do if the Grinch tried to steal his Christmas.
And it sounds like TyLon means business.
He simply replied:
“I want y’all to come back to my house and take him to jail.”
After assuring him that the police would be able to handle his request, she added:
“The Grinch is not going to come steal your Christmas. I won’t let that happen.”
The second video shows TyLon playing the video of the Grinch on his phone, just so everyone knew what he was going up against.
His disbelieving mum TeResa asked him:
“You thought the Grinch was going to steal your Christmas, for real?”
And it sounds like the five-year-old was taking the threat of the Grinch very seriously indeed.
He deadpanned:
“He steals everybody’s Christmas.”
Just to make sure that TyLon knew Christmas would be saved, the police department invited him back on Monday so that he could help bring the Grinch into custody.
TyLon’s brother shared the story on Facebook, where he captioned it:
‘I can NOT make this up!!! My 5 year old brother called the police and said that the Grinch is stealing people Christmas and he don’t want him to steal his so they really came to our house! “
