Man Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison For Dangerous Driving Causing The Death Of a Child

A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison for dangerous driving causing the death of a child.

According to RTÉ News, Ciaran Lane from Cabra was sentenced to seven years in prison with the final two years suspended and has been banned from driving for 20 years.

He told the gardaí that he had consumed a litre of vodka and two grams of cocaine before the vehicle he was driving hit Venessa Siatka in Phoenix Park on Easter Monday last year.

The toddler, who was weeks away from celebrating her second birthday, was with her mother on the day of the tragic incident.

She was rushed to Temple Street Hospital in serious condition but sadly passed away that night.

The judge took the fact that Lane, who handed himself into the authorities and entered a guilty plea, had eight previous convictions and a son of a similar age into account when making his decision.
