PICS: This tattoo artist turns 6 women’s scarred bodies into artworks

Brazilian artist, Flavia Carvalho has enabled women to transcend the scars of domestic abuse, Mastectomy, C-sections, birth defects and cancer, and replace them with beautiful body art… and for free. Her positive approach to scar tissue has made her personal project, ‘A Pele de Flor’ an International viral hit this week.

The Portuguese expression ‘A Pele de Flor’ means Skin of the Flower. For the artist it denotes the strong feelings people experience amidst suffering and difficult times.

Flavia has been contacted by hundreds of women her via social media platforms to cover similar scars to the ones here. Her personal mantra is”all women are beautiful flowers that need to have our skin protected and embellished”. The tattoo art is an instrument of empowerment and self-esteem for these women.

That is positive body image inspiration for all of us…
