Met Éireann meteorologist shares weather predictions for Christmas Day

It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a white Christmas on December 25.

You’re about to be disappointed if you were hoping for snow at Christmas because the forecast is decidedly normal, the same as any other day really.

We all know that it’s been a very mild winter and we haven’t had to bring out the cosy coats until about a week ago so that kind of weather doesn’t exactly result in snow.

Although the last few days have been colder than usual, it’s still very mild for winter so it’s extremely unlikely that we’ll be seeing any snow this year.

Met Éireann forecaster Liz Gavin spoke to The Irish Independent and explained exactly why we won’t be building any snowmen during Christmas 2018.

“So far there’s no indication in our chart of snow for Christmas, as the temperatures are far too mild”.

The meteorologist went on to say that we’re seeing temperatures of between nine degrees to 13 degrees this week five degrees the lowest temperature expected over the next week and to allow for snow, it would have to get significantly colder.

A couple of months ago, there was a flurry of bets indicating that there would be snow this Christmas but it seems that people were getting ahead of themselves regarding this particular weather prediction.

Ah well, bring on the big day all the same.
