A woman in her twenties who was questioned by Gardaí following the sudden death of a four-month-old baby boy has been released without charge.
The infant’s ‘unexplained’ injuries occurred at house in the village of Bahola, Co Mayo on December 28th.
The baby was taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar before being transferred to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin where he lost his fight for life on January 1st.
While details of the post mortem have not been released to the public, it is known that the report has been given to the Gardaí. A file is now being prepared for the DPP.
The woman, believed to be the child’s mother, was detained at Claremorris Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
