Mum Goes to the Dáil to Delete ‘666’ From Baby’s PPS Number

An Irish mother is demanding that her child’s Personal Public Service (PPS) number be changed because it contains the numbers 666.

The Limerick woman was distraught when she spotted the digits, which famously have links with the devil, and asked the Department of Social Protection to issue a new PPS number on “religious grounds”.

When her request to remove the so-called “number of the beast” from the baby’s code was unsuccessful, she turned to local Fianna Fail TD Willie O’Dea who put in her query to the Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton in the Dáil.

After considering the parliamentary question, Minister Burton said: PPS numbers are automatically allocated to children born in the State once the birth is registered within three months of the date of birth:

“The number allocated is randomly selected from the series of numbers available.” she said. “In general PPS numbers are only changed where a person’s number has been compromised.”

A spokesperson for Mr O’Dea said the worried mum: “has now been informed by the department that they wouldn’t change the number, as it’s done automatically and they don’t create designer numbers for people.”

What do you think, should the Department issue a new PPS number on “religious grounds”? Let us know on Twitter @HerFamilydotie.
