Parents paying up to €500 for back-to-school sports activities

The majority of Irish parents believe the Government should do more to help Irish families with back-to-school costs.

The cost of putting a child through their first year of secondary school has increased substantially for September 2015, with parents of teenage children now expected to shell out €785, an increase of €50 on 2014, and now a survey by the insurance provider Glo Health has revealed that 69 per cent of parents estimate they will need to spend more than €500 on extra-curricular sports activities and sports.

The survey showed that 43 per cent of Irish mums and dads sign their children up for at least two activities each year and 17 per cent enroll their child in at least one. 91 per cent of parents surveyed felt the Government could do more to help families avoid falling into debt to cover the cost of their child’s education.

Glo Health is offering €30 cash back on children’s sports club fees to all new and renewing customers this September.
