Planning permission has been granted for a new national children’s hospital at St James’s in Dublin.
According to RTÉ News, An Bord Pleanála has granted permission on the site and the project will incorporate three existing hospitals: Temple Street Children’s University Hospital, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, and the National Children’s Hospital in Tallaght.
Eilísh Hardiman, Chief Executive of the Children’s Hospital Group, is quoted as saying: “This truly is a watershed day for children, young people and their families.
“These buildings are a significant catalyst for how the new national model of care will be delivered. We are now firmly on our way to making this long awaited children’s hospital a reality.”
Construction is expected to start in the summer with a finish date predicted for 2020. Two satellite centres, at Tallaght and Connolly Hospitals, will apparently be ready by 2018.
