Sad News As Sir Terry Wogan Dies After Cancer Battle

Terribly sad news this morning as Sir Terry Wogan, a true darling of our nation, has passed away.

Tributes are pouring in as a statement from his family said that Sir Terry died surrounded by famliy.

The statement read;

“Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer. He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time”

Mr Wogan was born in Limerick and first headed into the world of banking but, after answering an advertisement, joined RTÉ where he worked as a newsreader and announcer.

Although he started in RTE, the bulk of his career spanning fifty years was spent at the BBC.

His BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, with his velvet voice and his wry, rambling thoughts on life, achieved the UK’s biggest and most loyal audience.

He is probably best known for his fantastic commentary of the Eurovision – his wit always kept us going through those dodgy numbers and even more questionable outifts!

A very sad day indeed – RIP Sir Terry.
