Search Underway After Car Enters the River in Cork

UPDATE: Latest reports from the gardaí say there was nobody in the car that was lifted from the water at the Marina this morning. They have, however, located a second car nearby, an SUV, that may have been in the water for a number of days. A recovery effort is underway.

A dive team is en route to the Lee Rowing Club in Cork, where a car is believed to have entered the water.

It is not yet known how many occupants were inside the vehicle when it was fully submerged at the scenic Marina area near Blackrock.

Crosshaven Coast Guard received a call just before 6am and gardaí, a rescue helicopter and the fire service arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.

It is not the first time a car has entered the water in the area, which has no safety barriers, in recent years.
