‘The stress of divorce:’ Kirsty Gallacher is banned for driving for two years

She was drunk when she drove to collect her children.

TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher was on Monday banned from driving for two years – after being caught behind the wheel three times over the legal limit.

The Sky Sports star blamed the incident on the “stress of divorce”; she had been going to collect her two sons from her ex-husband’s home.

She will also have to carry out 100 hours of community service and was fined £85 (€92.50) by a court in Slough, which is located around 35km west of London.

Last month, she was socialising with friends in a bar until the early hours and got a taxi home. However, the following morning at around 10am she returned to collect her car.

Police subsequently spotted her driving erratically and pulled her over. A breathalyzer showed she was three times the legal limit.

Ms Gallacher is divorced from rugby-star, Paul Sampson, and her lawyers said she is “horrified” by the situation.

Her representatives stated that Kirsty had “no intention to drive while over the limit”.

“She does not have a drink problem. She works long hours and drives a lot so she does not usually drink.

“There are divorce proceedings going on at the moment which are stressful. She is very remorseful and apologises.”

The 41-year-old is known for her love of fitness and healthy-eating. Her instagram account – where she has 183K followers – is often populated with workout and exercise snaps.

Kirsty has been with Sky Sports for almost 20 years and sources have said there is absolutely no question that her position with the broadcaster is in jeopardy.
