Tragic Carlow Mum Died After Internal Bleeding

A Carlow mum who died just hours after giving birth to her third child at a local hospital suffered a massive internal haemorrhage, according to a postmortem.

Mother-of-three Tracey Fitzpatrick from Templepeter gave birth to her healthy baby, who the family named Max, at St Luke’s Hospital on Easter Monday.

According to reports, the 36-year-old, who also has two other sons, Jamie and Adam, with husband Bernard, was recovering normally after the birth when she suffered an internal bleed.

Despite numerous transfusions, she passed away during the night.

The tragic incident, which is due to be reviewed by staff from a number of Dublin maternity hospitals, is the first maternal death at St Luke’s Hospital in four decades.

At a Mass in Carlow this week, parish priest of Ballon-Rathoe Fr Brendan Howard said the family and wider community was “stunned by grief”.
