Two Boys Remain In Serious Condition Following Roller Coaster Crash

Two children remain in a serious condition in hospital in Scotland after the theme park ride they were on fell apart in mid-air on Sunday.

The boys, aged 11 and 12, were among ten people who were injured in the horror smash when the Tsunami roller coaster left the rails at a bend, sending five of the gondolas hurtling towards the ride’s central structure before plunging to the ground. According to the park’s website, the ride can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.

The accident happened at a theme park in Motherwell, Scotland, called M&Ds, which has been closed as an investigation is carried out.

Eleven-year-old Liam Boyle has now endured eight hours of surgery to save his arm at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

Boyle’s grandfather told The Express: “The good news is Liam’s operation has been a success. They have saved his arm and hand. Recovery will take a while but at least we know he’s going to be all right.”

The second boy who remains in hospital, who has not yet been named, suffered chest, abdominal and leg injuries.

Katie McArdle broke her wrist in the incident, while her boyfriend William Muzzy dislocated his knee. Posting on social media, the childcare student revealed she thought she was going to die:

“Turning round and not seeing William beside me was the worst. We are honestly so so lucky, there is definitely someone watching over us both.

“We are both still in shock and have a few injuries but just so lucky to be alive.”

Bystanders uploaded photos that they captured to Twitter after the horrifying ordeal.

A spokesman said the theme park was “co-operating fully” with the investigation, adding: “We wish everyone a full recovery.”
