The UK’s First Purpose-Built “Breastfeeding Café” Has Opened Its Doors

In recent months, a number of cafes and hotels have hit the headlines and won us over for offering feeding mothers free cups of tea.

But a café in Nottinghamshire in the UK has gone one step further by becoming the first purpose-built “breastfeeding café”.

The Milk Lounge reportedly opened its doors yesterday and, as well as the usual coffees and cakes you expect in a café, it provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for feeding mums.

According to The Nottingham Post, 22-year-old Charlotte Purdie came up with the idea after feeling uncomfortable while out and about with her son.

The publication also outlines some of the features of the café which include a changing room with enough space for a buggy, a feeding room with sockets for expressing mothers, a toy corner, an activity room and a bottle-warming station.

Charlotte explained to The Nottingham Post that while her dream was to create a place that feeding mums (both breastfeeding and bottle-feeding) can go and feel at ease in, all members of the family are welcome.

We have no doubt that the café will be a success and quite frankly, we think more like it need to open in the UK and Ireland.
