Summer has officially begun, bringing with it showers of every description; from scattered and heavy to prolonged and widespread.
Oh yes, this is a week for a spot of traditional Irish weather bashing. There won’t be a thing dried on the line for the next seven days so release your inner Irish Mammy and have at it.
Met Eireann have revealed the lay of the land for now, and while temperatures remain relatively warm at between 14 and 19C, if you’re in Ulster you can expect heavy and possibly thundery showers today with yet more rain predicted for the southwest coast tonight.
Showery Rain
Thursday will be “fairly cloudy, with further rain or showers, giving a few heavy bursts in places”. If you’re planning an outing, plan to leave the house in the afternoon or evening when some sunshine may break through. Otherwise pack an umbrella and dig out the wellies.
Scattered Rain
Conditions will be “changeable and unsettled” for the rest of the week with scattered showers forecast on Thursday night and temperatures dropping to around eight to 11 degrees, with a light westerly breeze.
Worsening Rain
Friday will be cool, breezy and showery day with widespread showers in the morning. Wear rain gear because it’ll worsen, turning heavy in the west and north, with the downpour continuing into Friday night.
Rainy Spells
Saturday morning is the best time to get out of the house to soak up a rare sunny spell if cabin fever is setting in, but beware: cloud will increase later with a spell of rain spreading eastwards overnight with isolated showers on Sunday.
So there you have it: a typical Irish summer. Here’s some rainy day ideas to stop you going ’round the bend.
