Woman arrested after newborn baby found dead in airplane bathroom

Heartbreaking.

A woman has been arrested after the body of a newborn baby was found in an airplane washroom over the weekend.

Flight EY474 originally diverted to Bangkok for a medical emergency before continuing on to Jakarta.

The discovery was reportedly made on Saturday night after the Etihad plane landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Cops have arrested the suspected mother, a 37-year-old Indonesian woman identified as Hani, who they think gave birth during the flight.

According to AFP, she had been working as a domestic helper in Abu Dhabi for four years.

She fell ill around four hours into the flight over the weekend and began to bleed, which resulted in the captain diverting to Bangkok.

Following the Airbus A330 landing at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, a medical team boarded to evacuate Hani.

The plane left for its original destination an hour later, while she flew home on a later flight.

Local newspaper The Jakarta Post reports that Hani allegedly admitted it was her baby.

She is alleged to have said that she left him in the washroom because the baby was a result of a relationship with her employer in Abu Dhabi.

It is not clear if anyone on board the plane thought that the woman was pregnant or had given birth.
