We’ve featured the stunning photography of Kate T Parker before when she launched her Strong is the New Pretty photo series, and we totally fell for her realistic, empowering take on beauty in confident, strong, fierce, messy, silly young girls.
The shutterbug captured her girls and their friends in the ‘Strong is the new Pretty’ photo series, exactly as they should be – natural with scrapes, bruises and all – and not perhaps how society expects them to be (like miniature pop stars?!). The results were really beautify and captured people’s attention across the internet.
This time, she has partnered up with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) to produce another powerful series, this time, photographs of children who have had to endure serious illnesses and have had to face the world with scars (inside and out). And our minds are blown. The series on the hospital’s blog reads:
‘Perfect is boring: Kids see scars as ultimate show and tell.’
The subjects on the other side of Kate’s lens are these imperfectly perfect kids; these images highlight the refreshing relationship they have with their scars, inspiring others to recognise their flaws (physical or invisible scars) and to realise that they make them unique, special, beautiful and strong.
Special thanks to Kate T Parker for allowing us to feature these. Follow her lens on Facebook
