When you think about it, being the parent of young children does often mean finding yourself in some fairly crazy situations.
I mean, I know for me, I think my view of parenthood – prior to actually becoming a parent, that is – was a lot more Pinterest-y than what it actually is. As in, I had vision of myself looking perfectly yummy mummy-ish at all times, toting around a cherub dressed in baby cashmere and frilly rompers, and for there to be a lot of baking and bedtime stories and Sunday walks with the baby snoozing peacefully in the Bugaboo.
And don’t get me wrong, there has been all that too, of course (well, not so much dressed in baby cashmere as I quickly realized on incredibly unpractical and expensive that it…), but for the most part, parenting is nothing like a carefully curated Pinterest board. Trust me.
This reality will dawn on all of us sooner or later, and that is probably why these images by Melbourne -based documentary family photographer Natasha Kelly are being hailed by parents the world over for showing the true side of life with little people.
If you are on the brink of parenthood, take a look at what your future might look like. And if you are in the trenches yourself, mamas, simply revel in the fact that we are not alone in the craziness.
Why do they think the floor is a laundry basket?!
This position will be your life for years.
Naps look like this.
Yes, they will taste the cat food.
You will forget what solo showers feel like.
Mornings will be manic…
… and so will bedtime.
Tears. So many tears.
And laundry. You will do laundry like you have never done laundry before.
But despite all this crazy, and trust me on this, you will love these days so much you will never want them to end. (I know I don’t!) You will embrace all the mess and the noise and the chaos and feel like much as you loved your life before the kids came along, it was never quite as full and filled with love as it is right this minute.
Embrace the chaos, mamas! <3
