There is nothing as special as opening a handmade card, and nothing as fun (and chaotic) as making them from scratch with the kids. If you don’t mind a little messiness, getting stuck into an afternoon of creativity will really get everyone in the festive mood.
And we all know kids love to do a spot of gluing – so pick a theme that’s age-appropriate and get their little fingers to work!
Here are some of our faves, brought to you by An Post.
Felt cards
You’ll need:
- Card
- Felt
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pen for drawing shapes
That is it! We love how simple these are, achievable even with little tots around to help with gluing. Thanks for the inspiration North Story
Finger paint reindeer cards
We love how cute and easy these are to make.
You’ll need:
- A thumb or finger (or many!)
- Brown paint (or red, yellow and blue if you’ll be mixing your own)
- White paint or white gel pen
- Glue
- Red felt for the nose – but you can use any material or paper you have laying around
- Black felt pen
- Piece of card
Minimalist Snowmen (for the kids who only have a five-minute attention span!)
Thanks, Todd Norsten for the inspiration, we love this idea so cool and so quick.
You’ll need:
- Card
- Orange and black marker
Tissue paper Christmas trees
This is a brilliant one for the super-creative in the house. Thanks to Mary Making for the inspiration.
You’ll need:
- Cut up pieces of colored tissue paper. Glue them onto a sheet of white paper.
- Cut this sheet of paper into triangles to make the trees.
- Paint another sheet of paper with three stripes of watercolor.
- After the watercolor has dried, glue the trees onto this paper.
- With marker draw branches and grass.
- Use a paper punch to cut out white snow.
Fabric scraps cards
If you have any old fabric that hasn’t been used, or even old clothes that are to be thrown out, see if you can cut some edges off and get creative with the colours, patterns, and shapes. Thanks to North Story for even more inspiration. We are totally in love with this idea.
You’ll need:
- Card
- Glue
- Scissors
- Old fabrics
Once you’re done making your Christmas cards, bring them to the Post Office and spread some Christmassy cheer to all your family and friends. Don’t forget, check out anpost.ie/christmas for postage rates and parcel information.
