Mum Defends Instagram Video Showing Her Doing Yoga Poses On Her Child’s Cot

One mum was heavily criticised last week after posting the below video on her Instagram account.

Self-proclaimed fit momma Melanie Darnell, who has two kids, uploaded a clip of her doing some yoga poses over her child’s cot.

She captioned it: “Putting Sage’s bed to use for this fun crib workout! No gym, no problem; everyday household items can be great workout equipment. As moms we are great at thinking outside the box!”

While a number of fans praised her athletic abilities, others weren’t impressed and accused her of putting her baby at risk.

One commented: “Stop putting your child at risk. You should def consider it and excerise somewhere else around the house. Safety for you and your child should be your first concern [sic].”

Another wrote: “You can do all of these on the floor where you don’t risk breaking the crib and falling on your kid. Good for you but cmon this is just showing off and not being safe. Most of your stuff is awesome but this isn’t. Be fit but don’t be stupid [sic].”

Somebody else argued: “i understand you have experience but the issue is that you are promoting a unsafe trend that most moms who Are not experienced liked you are will probably try with their babies and cribs at home [sic].”

Others jumped to her defence and Melanie herself responded to the critics, explaining: “my child is not at risk, my children’s safety is always first. My extensive background in Pilates and gymnastics allows me to safely perform these exercises.”

She also spoke to People, saying: “It makes me a little bit sad, with people thinking that I’m putting my child in danger. But in my opinion, I’m not. I’m taking precautions. I know my skill set. I know what I’m safely capable of performing.”
