New Zealand banned 28 weird and wonderful baby names

No more little Lucifers

The Department of Internal Affairs in New Zealand banned parents from choosing twenty eight names they deemed too unusual for use last year.

Many names that included royal references such as Prince, King, Majesty and Royal-Rule were rejected by the department, despite the increasing popularity of monikers with a royal ring to them. Kourtney Kardashian is one of a number of celebrities embracing the royal trend, naming her newborn son Reign Aston late last year.

But, it’s not just royal names that have fallen out of favour, the Department has also banned: Lucifer, Christ, Justice, Corporal and Constable.

The most bizarre names that were banned included numbers ’09’, and ‘3rd’, which had both been attempted.
