Tommy Bowe says things are ‘turned upside down’ since becoming a dad

"Everybody tells you it's hard, but you don’t really get it..."

Tommy Bowe has told how “everything has been turned upside down” as he gushed over becoming a dad for the first time.

The Ulster rugby player and his wife Lucy Whitehouse welcomed little Emma to the world in April of this year.

And the proud dad said told how the couple are feeling “very fortunate”  as he opened up about their first few months as parents.

He told Independent.ie Style:

“It’s really exciting. She’s just under six months and she’s a lot more interactive now: in the first few months, she didn’t really recognise anyone apart from her mum.

“Now, when I walk in the door and she hears my voice, she’s looking around and I get the odd smile and giggle, that’s been really exciting.

“It’s hard. Everybody tells you it’s hard, but you don’t really get it, certainly the first few months are a challenge, everything has been turned upside down.

“We’re very fortunate, she’s sleeping really well.”

And he joked that little Emma has already become a “bit of a jet setter” as the couple brought her to Lucy’s native Wales to meet friends and family.

He added:

“[My parents] are in Monaghan, they’re only too happy to get up the road to see the little granddaughter and Lucy’s parents in Wales also.

“She’s turned into a bit of a jet setter, she’s been to Wales so much.”
