10 Super Handy Things Every Pregnant Woman Should Keep In The House

From the contents of your hospital bag, to the necessary and unnecessary items for after baby is born, pregnancy is a whirlwind of lists.

Long before nappy bins and nipple cream become must-have items however, there are a few simple things that can make a big difference to your comfort levels as you tick those nine months off the calendar.

Here’s our top ten:

1. A loofah or a body brush with a long handle

These are invaluable for when it becomes impossible to scrub anything below the bump in the shower or bath. The rough texture is a god-send for itchy legs too.

2. Bio Oil

Bump growth spurts can stretch the skin on the tummy, making it dry and itchy. Slather it in Bio Oil morning and evening to keep it moisturised and reduce stretch marks. If it’s good enough for Kim Kardashian West…

3. Ginger biscuits

The old wives tale is true, these can really help ease morning sickness. Keeping a packet in the cupboard means you won’t have to leave the house when nausea hits out of the blue.

4. Netflix

Get it on your phone so you can catch up on those must-see documentaries while you’re sitting in hospital waiting rooms for check-ups. Pop some headphones in your bag.

5. Chocolate and ice cream

Don’t ever let there be a moment when you’re craving a Twirl or a huge spoon of Chunky Monkey and the shops are closed. Create a stockpile early and keep it topped up for emergencies.

6. A mattress topper

Even if your bed is top-of-the-range, adding a memory foam mattress topper can boost it to five-star hotel level comfort. A bargain at less than €100 here.

7. A swimming pool membership card

Even if you never usually swim, a pool membership can be a huge relief while you’re pregnant. Bobbing about in the water takes the pressure off your joints and gentle water aerobics will help keep you fit and toned.

8. Lounge wear

Choosing the right lounge wear can cleverly bridge the gap between pyjamas and clothes. Pick silky smooth stretchy pants, roomy hoodies and matching tops that you’d be happy to answer the door in.

9. Good slippers

Nothing beats taking off your shoes at the end of a long day and slipping your tired, swollen feet into a fleecy heaven. Buy the best quality slippers you can afford and make sure they have good grip on the sole. We love Homeys and Uggs.

10. A sturdy tray

For days when you want to have breakfast (and lunch and possibly dinner) while propped up on pillows in bed or on the sofa.
