By George! Royal Baby Names Are Firmly On The Rise

Traditional has always trumped trendy when it comes to baby names and this year is no different, with royal choices featuring heavily in the top 100 most popular baby names chosen by British parents in 2016.

According to the latest Babycentre list of the UK’s top 100 boys’ and girls’ names of 2016, the younger Cambridges are stealing the show.

George has risen four places to take a spot in the top ten for the first time since 2012, while Charlotte has risen ten places.

Harry also continues to rise, appearing in the top five this year with a jump of two places from 2015. Kate and Catherine have both risen too, although William has fallen slightly from 13th to 19th place.

Interestingly Camila entered the top 100 at number 48 last year and Elizabeth nabbed number 23 on the list. This year Elizabeth has dropped 18 places to number 73. Camila has fallen off the list entirely.

The name Zara, chosen for the second-eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who is currently expecting her second baby, rose ten places in the charts this year, settling at number 35.
