Christmas is very different this year.
With Covid restrictions in place many Irish people have been asked not to return home this Christmas.
Because of this many of us will not be able to uphold a lot of Christmas traditions or host in person reunions this year.
One Irish family, decided not to let Covid spoil their annual reunion by holding it online and it’s truly heartwarming.

For years the Matthews family, whose roots are in Dublin’s Walkinstown, have come together at Christmas for a reunion – no matter where in the world they are living.
However, because of Covid-19 the family in the UK, US and Australia, like one million other Irish diasporas, couldn’t make it home this year.
Domino’s heard about the Matthews family’s passion for pizza and stepped up to the plate to organise simultaneous deliveries to the entire family all over the world allowing them to share their pizzas via a heartwarming video call which you can watch below.
Speaking at this year’s virtual family reunion, Ruth Matthews Dodd said;
“We have this lovely tradition of getting together in the house in Walkinstown for a big family dinner every December. It’s been so long since we’ve all been together and so much has happened in this last year. I miss my son Enda in Australia, my niece Lorna over in the UK and my brother Ronán in the US too and I just can’t wait to hug them again. Our family in Ireland is spread over Dublin, Kildare and Wexford so we haven’t been able to meet up properly for a long time too. It was just so great to see everyone at the same time, in one room, sort of, and to share pizza together. I can’t wait to see them all in person and argue over the last slice!”
Domino’s launched an Instagram competition this week which will allow one Irish family the chance to hold their own virtual pizza party with loved ones living abroad. You can find out the full details on the Instagram page @Dominos_ROI.
