While parents don’t really determine the time they go to bed at (the kids do!), it turns out that it can have a major impact on a person’s calorie intake.
According to a study, conducted by fitness wristband makers Jawbone UP (used to monitor exercise, sleep and diet), going to bed later could result in you eating more.
The data showed that those who crawl between the sheets after 11pm consume, on average, 220 calories more than those who go to bed earlier.
It seems that night owls are more likely to binge on junk food and alcohol while people who hit the hay earlier are generally healthier.
Jawbone data scientist Kristin Aschbacher wrote: “Early birds tended to eat healthier foods on the whole.
“This builds on our previous findings that people log more meals high in fats and sugars late in the evening.
“We hope this paints a picture of what a good night’s sleep might do.”
