Remember the days when you could go out three nights in a row and still be able to function after it all? So do we, but we can also safely say that we are no longer able for it.
Unfortunately, the reason that hangovers get worse as you get older isn’t something you can change. It’s to do with your body.
The Science of Us explains that our bodies are less efficient at processing alcohol when we are older. When we are young (free and single) the body easily breaks down alcohol in the liver.
There is also the fact that the amount of enzymes, which help to ‘wash out’ the alcohol, decreases as you age. This means that the acetaldehyde remains in the body for longer.
As if that’s not enough, your body loses water as the years go by which means that the alcohol inside your system tends to be more concentrated.
In other words, there is nothing you can do about it, it’s just life… then again, you’re only going to get older so you may as well make the most of the fact that now is the least hungover you can ever feel.
